Vijayawada: Friendship Day celebration of four engineering students turned into a tragedy with the accidental drowning of one of them in a swimming pool in a resort near Paritala village of Kanchikacherla mandal in Krishna district on Sunday.
According to Kanchikacherla police, the victim Ganta Balasankar, 21, of Gudlavalleru Engineering College in Gudlavalleru came to the Holiday Inn resort in Paritala on the occasion of Friendship Day along with others students. The students, after lunch, ventured into the swimming pool and Balasankar accidentally drowned which went unnoticed.
It is alleged that the youths were drunk when they ventured into the swimming pool. Balasankar is native of Chilakaluripeta in Guntur district. He is a final year engineering student.
