Tweet by senior police officer helps student save father's life
Abhishek Goyal’s gesture helps city youngster get rare blood group
BENGALURU: A timely tweet by a senior cop brought help to a 21-year-old panic-stricken final year BBM student, who was frantically searching for an AB (+) blood donor for his 51-year-old dengue-stricken father.
Aathish S, a resident of Indiranagar, got a shock on Wednesday night after the doctors in Mallya Hospital informed him that his father, Subramaniam, who was suffering from dengue, urgently needed AB ( +) blood. Due to the delay in treatment, Subramaniam’s blood platelet count had gone down to 10, 000. The doctors informed the family that they needed AB + blood group donors to increase his blood platelet count.
Aathish told Deccan Chronicle, “My father was suffering from fever, cold and cough for long and was taking home treatment. But, last night when his condition deteriorated we rushed him to Mallya hospital where after a blood test the doctors asked us to arrange for one unit of AB+ blood. I began asking for donors of AB+ blood group as none of our family members or friends were AB+.”
He said, “When nothing came up initially I panicked and didn’t know what to do. Then it struck me to approach police officials who perhaps could help. I took out my phone and sent a text to all the senior police officers around 9.45 pm after taking their number from the Bengaluru police official website.”
Soon, a tense Aathish received a reply from DCP (CAR) Abhishek Goyal. The senior cop, who took immediate note of the text, replied to Aathish: ‘I am trying from my side to send help. Don’t worry.’ In no time, Aathish’s phone began ringing incessantly while donors across the city came to Aathish’s aid. Finally, around 11 pm, a unit of AB +blood was given to his father. Aathish was surprised and grateful when the donors told him that they had read the senior cop Abhishek Goyal’s tweet and message on Facebook and rushed to help.
