The new IT policy will provide special benefits to private firms that work on R&D in these areas

Hyderabad: According to the state’s proposed IT policy, focus will shift from basic IT and IT enabled services to emerging frontiers like cyber security, big data, gaming and animation, photonics, Internet of things, drone technology and smart technologies.
Private companies that want to work on research and development in these areas will get special benefits. The policy, which is currently being chalked out, will focus on international partnerships with industry leaders and global think-tanks. The existing IT policy ended last Friday and the new policy is expected to be ready in three months.
“Globally, US is far ahead in all of these emerging domains, followed by the UK, Israel and Singapore where some work is being done. India has just started, and we want to occupy the leadership position in these emerging frontiers,” said IT secretary Jayesh Ranjan. “We have identified six important focus areas including IoT, big data and data analytics, photonics, smart technologies, cyber security and entertainment technologies.”
“Apart from encouraging private companies interested in these new domains, the state government will also give a push by promoting usage of such products and services within the government,” he said.
