Srinagar Colony is battling with problems as officials turn a deaf ear
Vijayawada: Srinagar Colony, a cool and calm residential locality in Vijayawada city, with more than 200 families in three streets, has lost its sheen with the passing years.
The Colony was a credit to Gandhinagar in Sat-yanaraynapuram as most of the residents are educated, businessmen and government employees.
The greenery is also a highlight of the Srinagar Colony. In 2012, along with 17 other colonies it was declared as a litter free Colony.
All these achievements are however things of the past. Today the Colony is battling with a number of problems as all the officials turn a deaf ear to their complaints of inundated roads, security breach leaving women’s safety at risk and non-functioning streetlights.
Though the Colony looks good, lack of side drains, mosquito menace and safety for women at night reveals the negative side of the Colony.
Speaking on the problems prevailing in Srinagar Colony, Yeddu Santosh Kumar, a resident of the Colony, said that the mosquito rise, spread of viral fevers and recently registered chain snatching cases are residents’ main concerns, but the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation officials have turned a deaf ear to their complaints.
In addition to these problems residents face flooding in the low lying houses during the monsoon season.
“All the roads are half completed. Even with a little rain, our Colony sinks and drains overflow on to the roads. No one cares to hear us out,” Mr G Vandanam who looks after Colony
maintenance said.
“We have given all the estimations to the corporation officials to take up the drainage work in the Colony and electrical department to increase the height of cables to prevent any untoward incidents. But the officials have failed to take any action on it,” said corporator of 46th division Trimoorthy Raju when contacted.
