Save Charminar, say citizens of Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The words of Deputy Chief Minister Mehmood Ali have not gone down well with the people of Hyderabad. Kalyan Ram Ganti, a former NTPC employee said, “Aurangazeb also wanted to demolish Charminar after his victory over Quli Kutub Shah. But he could not do it because of the high cost. These are wrong ideas as the structure is very strong.”
Student Salman Faraz said, “If you want to preserve our legacy please build a garden around Charminar to protect it from vehicles.”
Activist Mir Hadi Ali said, “KCR and his deputy have the same thoughts. OGH was built for the poor and they are bent on demolishing it. If that was not enough now the talk is about Charminar demolition. Why are they hell bent on destroying the heritage of this city? We do not want skyscrapers, don’t destroy our past.”
Another netizen wrote, “Please erase Charminar as the logo of Telangana.” The Old City Boys Association is very upset. They said in a strong voice that while they respect Mahmood Ali he must stay away from Charminar and OGH.
Gaffar Afridi Mallik from Saudi Arabia said, “Charminar is the pride of Hyderabad. If it becomes weak the government must preserve it, not demolish it.” Syed Mohsin, a software engineer said, “Hyderabad is famous for its monuments. Action must be taken against such irresponsible statements.”
