Porn websites banned?
Thiruvananthapuram: In what seemed to be an unofficial ban, many porn lovers in the country were stunned on Sunday morning to find their favourite websites taken off.
Porn sites were inaccessible on many internet service providers (ISPs) including Vodafone, MTNL, ACT, Hathway and BSNL.
Those who couldn’t access popular porn sites like Pornhub and Redtube took to social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook to bring the matter to light.
It may be recalled that Chief Justice H L Dattu while hearing a case on July 9 had pointed out that the court could not pass an interim order on the matter.
“Somebody can come to the court and say ' I am an adult and how can you stop me from watching it within the four walls of my room? It is a violation of Article 21 of the Constitution which ensures right to personal liberty. Yes the issue is serious and some steps need to be taken. The centre has to take a stand, let us see what stand the centre will take", said
Justice Dattu, who was heading a three-judge bench directing the union home ministry to file a detailed affidavit.
Mathew Kalathiveettil, a Facebook user, commented jokingly that “it is a psychological move to force people to go to Pakistan.” Francis Nazareth, another user, posted “ Those who want to watch porn go to Pakistan. Bharat Matha Ki Jai.”
Ajaya Kumar, commented “those who have already booked their journey for Pakistan for their controversial views on death penalty, kiss of love and right to eat beef now have another reason to leave.”
D Dhanasumod Renjini Devi wrote “my sympathies are with the MLAs of Karnataka. ..”what would they do?”, he said referring to the incident in which Karnataka MLAs were caught watching porn in the assembly.
