Kerala High Court stays order on Calicut University students’ suspension

The High Court also asked the University to allow Saniyo to write her fourth semester examination

KOZHIKODE: Kerala High Court has stayed Calicut University vice chancellor’s order to suspend two SFI workers who participated in the protest against the VC. Research Scholar Arshad V. and PG student Saniyo C.S. were suspended on March 23 following their participation in the protest staged by the SFI against the VC for his alleged involvement in the bribery case for the appointment of a university assistant.

The High Court also asked the University to allow Saniyo to write her fourth semester examination. The University suspended the duo along with other two students Sajith Soman and Sajina after issuing a memo.

But the disciplinary action against the latter two were scrapped beca-use of lack of evidence. Adv P.C Sasidharan, who appeared for the students, said that the University had not given a chance to the students to explain their side which, he pointed out, was against the law of natural justice.

Certificate mismatch
Meanwhile, C-Dit-Thiruvananthapuram has found a mismatch in the certificates issued to as many as 35 students of various streams of the University from the data available in the data base.

The VC has asked the controller of examinations to take necessary action to verify the certificates once again. The students confirmed to Deccan Chronicle that they received a call from the University to this regard.
