Chandrasekhar Rao asks PM to rename DRDO after Abdul kalam

Mr Chandrasekhar Rao wrote in his letter to the Prime Minister

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to name the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) in Hyderabad, after the late former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who died recently.

The former president had a 10-year stint as director of DRDO, Hyderabad and several path-breaking developments had taken place during his tenure which saw India achieve self-sufficiency in missile technology, Mr Chandrasekhar Rao wrote in his letter to the Prime Minister. He also said it was because of Dr Kalam that several strategic institutions like the DRDL, Midhani and the Research Centre Imarat (RCI) were established in Hyderabad.

“It would be highly appropriate if the Centre considers the name of Dr Abdul Kalam for the DRDO in order to pay a befitting tribute to the services of the scientist-turned-president,” the Chief Minister wrote.
