600 kitchen bins installed in Vanchiyoor, Chakkai
Thiruvananthapuram: A mass cleaning drive was launched in the state capital on Sunday as part of ‘My City Beautiful City’ campaign. Thomas Issac MLA headed the cleaning drives held at Vanchiyoor, Medical College and Chakkai region here.
As many as 40 tonne garbage was removed from Vanchiyoor region by Corporation workers.
“We launched an intensive campaign at Vanchiyoor region around 600 kitchen bins were installed. We cleared all dumping points in the ward. Our prime objective is to achieve total sanitation. Around 5 loads of garbage were removed,” said the official.
The civic body redeployed health workers from Secretariat and Sreekanteswaram health circle. Mr Thomas Issac, on the occasion, demonstrated kitchen bins to residents at Medical College and Vanchiyoor.
On Sunday, the civic body installed around 600 kitchen bins at Chakkai ward. “Next Sunday we would be carrying out similar cleaning drives at Chakkai. All these wards are in the heart of the city and eliminating public dumping points is the key,” said the official
A survey was carried out at Medical College and Pettah wards. “Around 1,300 households have agreed to install kitchen bins. Several service organisations are helping us in carrying out the survey. Kerala Gazetted Officers Association and NGO Union helped us in carrying out the survey,” said the official.
The intensive cleaning drive was launched at 8 am and continued till 5 pm. As many as 65 workers took part in the cleaning drive.
