Rs 2 crore worth red sanders seized in Kolar district
Anantapur: Kadapa special task force team unearthed Rs 2 crore worth red sanders logs from Katiganahalli in Kolar district of Karnataka on Sunday based on information by Nepal-based international red sanders smuggler Lakshman Dhamang alias Lakshman Donge.
The international smuggler was actually arrested by special task force team of Kadapa at New Delhi on July 15 and he was shifted to Kadapa on transit warrant on July 19.
Kadapa SP Navin Gulati said the smuggler was taken into police custody six days ago and raided on dumps based on the information. "At least 42 red sanders logs weighing one tonne worth of Rs 2 crore were recovered from the dump near Katiganahalli," he added.
Dhamang was actually a cloth merchant and shifted to Delhi 10 years ago and turned as international smuggler. He had close contacts with local and international smugglers, the Kadapa SP said and added that the department would spare none of the top heads involved in smuggling of red sanders from the district.
