Ajay Devgn- Tabu's 'Drishyam' takes down 'Baahubali' at weekend box office
The crime thriller is now 5 spots above the Hindi dubbed version of the epic film
Mumbai: The Ajay Devgn and Tabu starrer ‘Drishyam’ has cashed in a whopping 29,20,00,000 crore at the national box office over its first weekend. The crime thriller that is a remake of a Telugu film by the same name, has climbed its way up to the number 6 spot on list of 2015’s highest weekend collections.
The film made a strong 8.5 crore start, but all thanks to good word of mouth, it picked up its pace and beat films like ‘Piku’ starring Bollywood heavy weights Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor- Arjun Rampal’s ‘Roy’ and even Varun Dhawan’s crime drama ‘Badlapur’.
Bollywood filmgoers got their first taste of blood, and they seem to be loving it! Superlative word of mouth has seen a fantastic opening weekend start for this non-conventional film and distributors despite multiple challenges such as heavy rains and floods affecting the important territories of Bengal, Rajasthan and Gujarat and the Jammu region facing a bandh for the last three days. The has also managed to walk away with a good loot despite facing stiff competition from films like ‘Bahubali’ and ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ still running in theatres.
Much to everyone’s surprise, the film has also sent the Hindi dubbed ‘Baahubali’ down one spot to number 11.
