Hyderabad: “If after a thousand years Charminar becomes weak, it, too, will be demolished (Hazar saalo baad agar Charminar bhi kamzor ho jata toh kya karte, tohdna padta),” Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali said on Friday.

He said, “The hospital is very old. Instead of spending Rs 100 crore on the maintenance of an ancient structure or turning it into a museum, it is better to construct a new building. (Hospital bahut purana ho gaya hai. Usko Rs 100 crore deke banae se toh accha hai ki naya building bana de).”

The Deputy Chief Minister was reacting to a query on the demolition of Osmania General Hospital at the Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy Indoor Stadium. He said, “Instead of spending from the taxpayers’ money and demolishing it 10 years later, we are turning it into a good hospital now.”
