Sahil Anand is back on the small screen

The actor, who previously starred in Student Of The Year, tells us about his journey in the industry

Former MTV Roadies contestant Sahil Anand is back on the small screen with the medical drama show Ek Nayi Ummeed — Roshni. The actor, who previously starred in Student Of The Year, tells us about his journey in the industry. Excerpts from the interview:

Do you think reality shows give one’s career a push?
When I participated in Roadies, reality shows gave a very good platform to newcomers. But nowadays, I don’t think it is the case because there are so many reality shows. Once the show goes off air, the contestants don’t stand out anymore.

Also, reality shows might give you instant fame, but that fame usually vanishes in a puff of smoke. You need to consistently perform well in order to achieve success.

Do you still follow Roadies?
Yes, I still follow the show. It’s very close to my heart since I started my career with it. Of course, I don’t get to watch each and every episode because of my hectic schedule but whenever I get the time, I check the episodes online to get a peek at what’s happening.

What’s your role like in the new show Ek Nayi Ummeed — Roshni like?
It was extremely difficult to essay this role, mainly because of the training that we received before we started shooting the series. We went through workshops with doctors to learn how to act like a doctor. In fact, we also have a panel of doctors on board to constantly guide us while we are shooting.

Since the show is female-centric, were you apprehensive about your role?
Our show is very different from the saas-bahu dramas we see on television these days. We have previously seen medical shows that use hospitals as a backdrop to narrate romantic stories.

Ek Nayi Ummeed — Roshni is a show that gets to the core of the medical field and not just uses the hospital as a backdrop. It’s a youth-oriented show which is socially relevant and every character has a prominent role to play, so I don’t agree with the female-centric tag either.
