Nizamabad: Libya returnee shares horror

Nizamabad: V.Shyam Kumar, lecturer in English recalled the horrific days in Libya, where he worked as lecturer in Sirte University a couple of years ago. In the wake of four Indians including two Telugus kidnapped by suspected Islamic State (IS) group on July 29, Mr Shyam Kumar recalled his experience in Libya.

Mr Shyam Kumar, a native of Nizamabad, worked as lecturer in Libya for more than three years. Speaking to this newspaper, he said that Indians working in medicine, engineering and information technology sectors in Libya are returning to India due to terror threat there. Indian origin workers are also in sizeable numbers in Libya, he added.

The teaching faculty said that locals in Libya supported them to stay there for employment and assured safety too. “Actually, we would have stayed in Tripoli only, but our parents and relatives forced us to return to India for safety,” he explained. A few Indians continued to stay in Libya, because they had been living there for years, he opined.

Mr Shyam Kumar said that the Indian government responded positively and timely for safe return of its citizens from Libya when the terror crisis began. “My colleagues from Anantapur and Guntur safely reached home from Libya recently,” he said. A few others are in touch with him on Internet, he added. Indian teaching faculty of Tripoli helped workers for safe return to India from Libya, he explained.
