Family faked my death certificate: ‘Dead’ man

Babu, a resident of 11th Avenue, Ashok Nagar, has worked in many well known Hindi films as a sound engineer
Chennai: The Chennai police is probing a case in which a Bollywood sound engineer’s wife and son together faked his death by obtaining his death certificate, legal heir certificate and even a funeral certificate to sell his property worth many lakhs of rupees. “We are probing the case and hoping to arrest the accused, including some government officials soon,” a city police officer said.
According to a complaint, lodged with the Chennai city crime branch by J.D. Christhudas Babu, his 51-year-old wife Diana and son Samson Nirmal Kumar, 26, had fabricated his death certificate, burial ground report of death and also a legal heir certificate with the connivance of few government officials in January-February this year to sell a plot in Chennai’s southern suburb of Keezhkattalai for Rs 18 lakh.
According to him, his wife, son, tashildar and Chennai Corporation officials together had conspired to create all the fake documents to sell the land that belonged to him.
Babu, a resident of 11th Avenue, Ashok Nagar, has worked in many well known Hindi films as a sound engineer and sound mixer. In his complaint to the city police, he said that when he came to know about the fraud his wife and son had committed, he moved out of the apartment. According to him, his son had been spending too much.
“He and his mother had even sold my car without my knowledge. They also conspired with some others to get my death certificate ready to sell my land. They will not hesitate to eliminate me,” he said in his complaint. He also said that the buyer of the land was well aware of the conspiracy by his wife.
The investigators were surprised by the fact that government agencies had issued the death certificate and legal heir certificates to a family of a man who is very much alive. “A detailed probe is on,” the police said.
