Teachers fake even cancer to get their tranfers stalled in Telangana
Hyderabad: Government teachers feigned diseases like cancer, tuberculosis and neurological disorders and being physically handicapped to gain preferential treatment for their relocation in the recent transfers and rationalisation process in TS.
Some teachers even claimed to be widows – though they were not – to be prioritised and transferred to the place of their choice. Several such mala fide cases were rejected, but some teachers apparently succeeded with the help of district level officers.
Most such cases are said to be from Medak and Warangal districts, home districts of the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari.
Teachers’ transfers are to be posted online by each district education officer. But in Medak, no such thing has been done purportedly because they “don’t have computers”.
As per the Telangana Teachers Rules 2015, 70 per cent physically handicapped teachers, widows, legally separated women, teachers affected with cancer, undergoing open heart and neuro surgery, tuberculosis and heart or liver transplantation get preferential treatment in the seniority list. They are entitled to get transferred to the location of their choice.
Most government teachers detest the postings allotted to them by the government due to several reasons.
TS Education Ministry sources said, “Generally certificates issued by the State Medical Board are to be produced. But due to lack of time, certificates issued by referral hospitals were allowed. So a lot of teachers produced certificates claiming to have cancer, tuberculosis. But many of them were rejected. It was discussed in earlier meetings also.”
Even a TRS MLA has alleged deception in the recent transfers. Jangaon TRS MLA M. Yadagiri Reddy said a teacher had been transferred on the basis of a false certificate feigning neurosurgery from a local neurosurgeon.
An enquiry into the issues in Warangal district has also been ordered by the TS government. But there is no such inquiry into the cases in Medak district.
