Criminals do not fear due to poor conviction

Over 4,000 criminals are repeat offenders each year as per National Crime Records Bureau data

Hyderabad: Criminals do not fear the law anymore due to the very low conviction rates. Most criminals are fearless as they can easily come out of jail.

In Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, around 4,000 criminals are repeat offenders, who were booked and arrested at least once, says records of the National Crime Records Bureau.

However, criminal charges slapped against them do not stop them from committing crimes as they believe that their lawyers can handle the cases.

In July first week, BJP MLA Raja Singh was booked for a hate speech by the Dabeerpura police following a complaint from an ex-corporator.

During his speech at a meeting in Dabeerpura, Raj Singh even allegedly challenged the police. The MLA said the police could do nothing except register some cases against him.

“Police register five to six cases against me whenever I conduct Shobha Yatra in Hyderabad and they do nothing,” the MLA said.

Raja Singh was earlier booked for several offences including attacking police officers. More than 30 IPC sections have been slapped aga-inst him in 20 cases.

However, he was never convicted despite strong evidence. Experts say that unless criminals are convicted the crime rate will never drop.
