BCCI refuses relief to banned players

Kerala Cricket Association had made a plea to the board to allow Sreesanth to play again
New Delhi: The trio of S. Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila might be preparing to make a comeback to cricket after a Delhi trial court cleared them of all charges in the 2013 Indian Premier League spot-fixing case, but there is no let up from the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Reiterating their stand, BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur on Wednesday said that the board was having "no second thoughts" on revoking the ban on former India pacer Sreesanth and spinner Chavan.
Both had been banned for life by the Indian board, while Chandila's hearing is still on. "The earlier decision of the BCCI's disciplinary committee ban on this case will stay on," Thakur said here on the day.
The Kerala Cricket Association had made a plea to the board to allow Sreesanth to play again, but Thakur said there will be no re-think on the life ban of the two cricketers.
"Disciplinary proceedings are different, criminal proceedings are different. The action taken in the past were based on the disciplinary action for the indiscipline of these players, reports submitted by the anti-corruption unit. So the same decision of ban will continue on these players," he said.
All the 36 accused persons including the three cricketers, were discharged in the IPL-6 spot fixing case by the Patiala House Court last week.
