BJP gears up for BBMP polls, forms committee
BENGALURU: Uncertainty over BBMP polls notwithstanding, leaders of the state unit of BJP are set to highlight the failures of the state government even before a formal announcement on the elections.
The city unit of the party has been set up a monitoring committee to conduct weekly meetings to discuss election-related issues. The committee has had several sessions in Bengaluru, discussing issues like publicity, manifesto and poll issues, according to former legislator and party general secretary Nirmal Kumar Surana.
He said the party has instructed its cadre to approach voters during outreach programmes. While collecting data on party’s new members, the workers have been requesting them to vote for BJP in BBMP elections. The party has decided to highlight failures of the state government during the last two years including ‘neglecting’ development of Bengaluru, suicide by farmers, corruption in the office of Lokayukta, poor industrial growth and failure to improve the infrastructure in Bengaluru, Mr. Surana said. Interestingly, senior leaders have not shown any interest about preparations for elections.
JD(S) too holds meeting
Leaders of JD(S) on Wednesday commenced the exercise of selection of candidates for BBMP polls. The meeting was chaired by party supremo H.D. Deve Gowda at his residence. The party would focus on 40-60 seats where its prospects are bright. By Sunday, the party would finalise the names of 150 candidates. The party is likely to hold a rally in the city next Wednesday by when it could approve the names of another 48 candidates.
