Value-added courses make students industry ready

State universities tie up with industries for training
Chennai: Deemed universities and private engineering colleges in the state have tied up with industries to teach customised value added courses like big data, mobility and analytics to make students industry ready.
S. Ganapathy, dean (placement), SRM University, said the university offered seven tailor-made courses to make students ready for the industry. “Companies provide inputs for us to frame the curriculum for individual organisation, based on which we train students. These courses not only make students understand how the industry works but also help industry train students for their needs,” he said.
Pointing out that their institute trained students in telecom for a top IT company this year, the dean said that of the 30 students who were trained, five got shortlisted for internship and later the company recruited them.
According to placement heads, course content varied based on the project that the respective company was involved in.
City based RMK Engineering College, has set up centres of excellence to provide students an opportunity to learn latest technologies, which would be out of the book curriculum.
“We have identified upcoming subjects and have set up sophisticated labs, like big data, iOS, product life management and factory automation at a huge cost to train students in these areas of specialisation,” Mr R.M.
