Telangana State moves to cancel land of infrastructure body

DILL had 6,819 acre under its possession

Hyderabad: The decks have been cleared for cancellation of the Deccan Infrastructure and Land Holdings Limited (DILL), a subsidiary of the AP Housing Board that was established in October 2006 when the state was united. The legal wing of the Telangana government has reportedly suggested cancellation and taking back more than 2,250 acre of government land under its possession.

Earlier, DILL had 6,819 acre under its possession and the YSR government had awarded hundreds of acres of land to several infrastructural companies over a period of three years. But as the issue of land deals turned controversial, successive governments under Mr Rosaiah and Kiran Kumar Reddy stopped allotting lands under DILL. After bifurcation, the TS government eyed the huge chunk of land to allot to several companies under the TS-iPASS system and directed finance and industries ministries to look into DILL lands.

Since the body has become defunct, the legal department has apparently given its nod for its cancellation, sources in the government said. DILL was established under the Companies Act of 1956 as a subsidiary of APHB, which had 57.44 per cent holding, and the state government (i.e. the then AP) with 42.56 per cent equity. The equity holding of both the bodies was according to the transfer of their respective lands.

As the APHB was overburdened with the projects ranging from construction of houses for the public, government buildings etc., DILL was created to cater to the growing needs of the real estate sector. It was tasked to develop urban infra projects, construction of integrated townships under PPP model, enter JVs with major real estate firms for construction and deals both within AP and outside etc. However, all these tasks stopped after YSR’s regime.
