RSS will gobble up SNDP, warns CPM
Thiruvananthapuram: The Left parties on Wednesday said though the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam leadership was trying to hobnob with the Sangh Parivar for temporary gains, their misadventure could land the organisation in the RSS trap.
CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told DC that the SNDP leadership's move was suicidal. “The RSS will swallow them and they wouldn't even come to know,” he said.
Kodiyeri said Sree Narayana Guru’s preaching which centred around one caste, one religion and one God was totally against communal ideology of Sangh Parivar. “The majority of Sree Narayana Guru’s followers are secular minded who will not get carried away by the communal campaign,” he said and added that previous attempts made by the SNDP to enter politics had not met with much success.
When asked about Vellapally’s criticism that CPM leaders were arrogant, Kodiyeri said the SNDP leader should specify who acted in that manner. “The Left leaders are compassionate towards the working class. They are not rude to people. Vellapally is trying to spread false stories for vested political interests,” he added.
CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran said the SNDP had made such attempts even in the past. They brought L. K. Advani while he was deputy prime minister to address an SNDP public meeting in Thiruvananthapuram. “Some SNDP leaders resort to such tactics once in a while. But the ideologies of Sree Narayana Guru and RSS are poles apart,” he said.
He said there was a concerted campaign in the state suggesting that the majority community was against the Left. "In fact, only a minuscule minority among the majority community thinks on these lines. But we are not taking their threat lightly. We will fight them ideologically taking along members of the majority community," he added.
The CPI leader said the state had a rich tradition of secularism and communal harmony and people would see through the game of the BJP-RSS to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere here.
