PM Narendra Modi to be at Dr Kalam's funeral
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the last rites of former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam at Rameswaram on Thursday, Union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu confirmed on Wednesday.
“The Prime Minister is coming,” Mr Naidu said, when asked if Mr Modi would be there. Speaking to reporters at Palam Air Force Station before the former President’s body was flown to Rameswaram in a special IAF aircraft, Mr Naidu said some Chief Ministers would also be present. Sources said the Mr Modi will reach Rameswaram early on Thursday and attend the rituals at around 11 am.
Dr Kalam’s remains were handed over to his family for ceremonies after public homage on Wednesday evening. The governments in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry declared a public holiday on Thursday as a mark of respect.
