Liquor essential item for 30 per cent people: Madras High Court
Tasmac shops may be closed on the occasion of birth or death anniversary of Abdul Kalam
Chennai: Pointing out that liquor is essential for nearly 30 per cent of the people in Tamil Nadu, the Madras high court on Wednesday suggested that like Tiruvalluvar Day and Mahavir Jayanthi, Tasmac shops may be closed on the occasion of birth or death anniversary of former President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
Justice C.S. Karnan made the suggestion while ordering notice, returnable by July 30, to the state government and Tasmac on a petition filed by Tamizhaga Tasmac Pattali Thozhilsangam, which sought to direct the state government to declare holiday for Tasmac shops on July 30 when the mortal remains of Abdul Kalam is scheduled to be laid to rest at Rameswaram in Ramanathapuram district.
