Dr Kalam was curious to know about the birds of the hills, said M. Kumaravelu
Ooty: Former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam who passed away on Monday was fascinated by birds and on several occasions had spoken about how the flight of the birds inspired him to pursue flight-science.
During his visit to the Nilgiris in May 2008, Dr Kalam was curious to know about the birds of the hills, said M. Kumaravelu, Field Officer, CPR Environmental Education Centre (CPREEC).
CPREEC had organised an exhibition titled, ‘Nilgiris and its culture’ during the 150th Founder’s day celebration of Lawrence school at Lovedale near here.
Dr Kalam who was the chief guest at the function had spent ample time to learn about the culture of Nilgiris through the photographs displayed.
“When he noticed photographs of birds taken by Coimbatore based T.R.A. Arundavaselvan, Dr Kalam was curious to know about the bird wealth,” he said.
