Hyderabad: The flyover from the KBR Park entrance to the Jubliee Hills junction will have a 3+3 lane carriageway, and will be nearly 3 km long and 7 metre high. Among the 18 new flyovers approved for the city, this is the longest.
The corridor-based flyovers will be accompanied by widening of roads, improvement of pedestrian facilities, and bus bays, jogging and cycling tracks with utility ducts. The first phase of grade separators will be completed in 30 months with 100 per cent land acquisition. Since land is being acquired at the KBR Park, the GHMC will build a separate cycling track.
The government had earlier approved 20 flyovers, but two have been dropped due to major land acquisition issues for phase I. The first phase of the project costs Rs 2,631 crore. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is examining the feasibility of building one grade separator underground.
GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar said the GHMC aims to complete the works in 30 months. Tenders will be called in the two-three days and works will begin in two-and-a-half months. The works would be taken up under the engineering procurement and construction system and companies would be paid in 20 instalments. The work will start only after acquisition of the properties.
While a detailed project report on Phase II of SRDP will commence from Sept. the complete project is owned by the state government and it will pay for the project. An inspection was carried out at BHEL, Allwyn, Kothaguda, Gachibowli, Khajaguda, Biodiversity, Nanalnagar, Rethibowli, Masab Tank and SFCL Junctions.
