Home, revenue draw Chandrababu Naidu’s ire
Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday evening said that the Revenue and Police (Home) departments were giving a bad name to the government and that he would revamp the two departments and make them more service oriented.
Interestingly, the portfolios of the two departments are held by the two deputy Chief Ministers. Deputy Chief Minister K.E. Krishna Murthy holds the revenue portfolio while the home department is overseen by deputy Chief Minister Nimmakayala China Rajappa.
The CM on Tuesday night held a “motivational” meeting with ministers, special chief secretaries, principal secretaries, secretaries and heads of departments (HODs).
During the meeting, a senior IAS officer pointed out the communication gap among top-level officers when it came to decision-making. He said that when the CM visited foreign countries with officials and signed agreements there, officials back home were not updated about them. Mr Naidu agreed that there was a communication gap and pointed out that it could be overcome with the help of technology. He said that by making an app, the government could ensure that all officers were kept up to date of the decisions.
Finance minister Yanamala Rama Krishnudu said in the meeting that the government was spending less on capital expenditure while non-plan expenditure was increasing. Principal secretary of Finance P.V. Ramesh told the CM that there was no problem with funds as the government had Rs 18,000 crore deposits in the banks. He said that the government could utilise the money as and when needed.
