A silent march for cleaner Chennai
Jahir Hussain and M.A. Balasubramanian said that they started this group 12 years ago
Chennai: N. Jayalakshmi, a retired headmistress of Chennai corporation School, who took part in a silent march said this day should be have been a working day as former President Abdul Kalam would have wanted so.
The silent march was conducted by an organisation ‘Nallur Vattam’ involved in social causes, from Ambedkar Salai to Valluvar Kottam at Kodambakkam.
Jayalakshmi further said that this march was more to propagate Abdul Kalam’s thoughts. Like the way Kalam had his Vision 2020 this group also has major goals like that of Kodambakkam 2020 and Triplicane 2020. “Our goal is to strive for a clean city,” she said.
Nearly 70 persons, a majority of them students, participated in the march. T. Tamil Arasan, a student from Meenakshi College of Engineering, was suffering from negative thoughts during Standard X. After reading Abdul Kalam’s books he started looking at life with optimism. “ He was a huge inspiration in my life.”
Jahir Hussain and M.A. Balasubramanian said that they started this group 12 years ago.
“We will make Kalam’s Vision 2020 a success. We are inviting people from all over the country to join this group so to keep our city clean. Mr Kalam met us and listened to our activities. He encouraged us to continue doing it,” said Jahir Hussain.
The main reason to choose Valluvar Kottam is because he was an ardent follower of the Tamil literature Tirukkural.
