Over 50,000 register for digital locker facility in Kerala
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: At least 53,543 people have availed themselves of the digital locker (DigiLocker) facility to store government certificates in the cyberspace hardly a month since its launch in the state.
A late entrant, Kerala is now in the sixth place in registrations among all states on the DigiLocker, a Digital India initiative of the department of electronics and information technology.
A good chunk of them are government officials and users of the e-district facility. “We have been conducting enrollment camps in government secretariat and district collectorates. The facility is also provided at Akshaya centres,” said Ker-ala state IT mission director Mohammed Y. Safirulla.
The IT mission is planning enrollment camps in schools and colleges, besides prompting users of the e-district facility.
All over India, 8.8 lakh persons have already uploaded over five lakh documents.
Maharashtra (94,569) tops the list followed by UP (83,746), Jharkhand (79,130), West Bengal (78,243) and Andhra Pradesh (64,611).
Anyone with the Aadhaar number can register for a digital locker at www.digitallocker.gov.in either through mobile using a one-time password or through a biometric device.
Self-attested copies of certificates and government documents can be stored, free of cost.
While submitting any applications at any government offices in future, the Aadhaar number only need to be quoted instead of giving copies of the documents. The officials concerned can get a copy of the document from the locker.
