Over 12,000 govt quota seats vacant in self-financing engineering colleges

The total number of vacant seats, including management quota, was 30,000 that year

Thiruvananthapuram: Over 12,000 government quota seats remained vacant in self-financing engineering colleges in the state when the date of admissions as per the third round of allotment ended on July 25.

As per an agreement with the government, the admissions would end with the third round of allotment. There are 25,760 government seats available in private self-financing colleges.

The managements can admit students on their own to the vacant government quota seats after the stipulated date.

So far, it was thought that only management quota seats with higher fees have no takers. During the 2014 admissions also, 11,448 government quota seats had remained vacant.

The total number of vacant seats, including management quota, was 30,000 that year.

Meanwhile, candidates with medical rank up to 597 have got allotments in state merit in government medical colleges, as per the second allotment published on July 27.

Candidates with ranks up to 1052 have secured allotment under the government quota seats in the self-financing medical colleges.
