Rayalaseema and Nellore district are the worst-hit

Hyderabad: Indicating the seriousness of deficient rainfall, several mandals in Kurnool and Nellore have recorded minus-90 and minus-80 deviation from the norm. Panyam and Kallur in Kurnool district reported minus-96 and minus-91 deviation, marking the highest deficient rain fall in the state.
Rayalaseema and Nellore district are the worst-hit, and meteorological officials they can get succour only from the northeast monsoons. According to the AP State Development Planning Society, 10 mandals in Kurnool are showing minus-80 per cent deviation. Kurnool and Nellore recorded around -50 per cent deficient rainfall.
Mr M. Narasimha Rao, assistant meteorologist at IMD Hyderabad, said, “A deviation of 96 per cent indicates almost no rain and us categorised as scanty.” He said the IMD data suggested that Kurnool was the worst-affected.
He said that Rayalaseema usually receives less rainfall during the southwest monsoon but receives good rains along with Chennai during the northeast monsoons. In Nellore, Duttalur, Manubolu, Chittamur, Dakkili mandals recorded scanty rainfall. In Anantapur district, Kadiri, Dharmavaram and Amarapuram mandals are highly affected.
Mercury rises as rains stay away from TS, AP:
Rainfall is being recorded in just a handful of stations across Telangana and AP, and day temperatures were recorded at 35ºC and above in several places. In AP, Jangamaheswarapuram, Ongole, Nellore and Tirupati recorded 39ºC on Tuesday. In Telangana, Nalgonda and Hanmakonda recorded 37ºC. As per IMD data, the temperature at some stations is 4ºC above normal for this time of the year.
Apart from this, the humidity percentage is at 65 per cent and above, causing discomfort. In coastal AP, even the night temperatures touched 30ºC in Nellore and Ongole. Moderate to heavy rain would occur at a few places over coastal AP and light showers over Rayalaseema for the next five days, the IMD said.
