Let Kerala pay respects, requests CM Oommen Chandy
The letter was handed over to the Centre ahead of the Union Cabinet meeting
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has urged the prime minister and the centre to make arrangements for bringing the mortal remains of former president Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam to Kerala for the people to pay their last respects.
Dr Kalam had spent 21 years at VSSC here and had a special bond with the people, he said on Tuesday. Mr Chandy requested that arrangements should be made to place his mortal remains for a brief period in Thiruvananthapurm on the way to Rameshwaram.
He pointed out that Thiruvananthapuram and Kerala were Dr Kalam's karma bhumi. "Our demand should be considered sympathetically," he requested.
The letter was handed over to the Centre ahead of the Union Cabinet meeting.
