Attakulangara school protection panel to move Supreme Court

Trida has decided to forego around 35 cents from the 2 acre allotted for it by the government for the project

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Attakulangara school protection committee has decided to approach Supreme Court to challenge the High Court verdict giving green signal to the bus terminal-cum-shopping complex on Attakulangara central school land.

General secretary of school protection committee Saji Kumar said the committee had decided to file a petition in the apex court against the decision of the government to use school land for commercial purpose.

“Initially we thought of filing a review petition in the High Court to reconsider its decision giving permission for Trida to go ahead with the project. We cannot let this happen and hence we have decided to bring in some changes in the petition and file a case in the SC. Now discussions are going on with our attorney,” said Mr Saji Kumar.

Trida has decided to forego around 35 cents from the 2 acre allotted for it by the government for the project. "Construction of bus terminal is secondary for Trida and all that matters for them is the commercial value of the land which is lying in the heart of the city. They want to construct a shopping complex there. How are they going to construct a bus terminal on 1.65 acres land?," alleged Mr Saji Kumar.

Trida chariman P K Venugopal said the project would be executed only after reaching a consensus with the stake holders. Refusing to comment on the allegations raised against Trida, Mr Venugopal said that the project was conceived in public interest.
