ICY, a narrative-driven survival RPG on Steam (PC) is set many decades after a deadly ice age.
Text-based, point and click games aren’t the most popular but this latest indie offering is promising. ICY, a narrative-driven survival RPG on Steam (PC) is set many decades after a deadly ice age. You must wander the icy landscape, hunt for food, scavenge for resources and fend off bandits by making choices on the game’s main screen. Your actions will have consequences on the world around you as conversations will help strengthen relationships with members of your family, folks you help will remember your kindness and reward you while mistakes might cost you or one of your comrades, dearly.
You must also travel across the icy wasteland in search of answers, looking to find your friends all the while trying to keep your new companions alive.
The game has a way of drawing you in and making endless hour feel like mere minutes. The copious amount of reading is made bearable by stunning illustrations that help bring each encounter to life. Every character you meet along the way has his or her own story that is a small but vital part in the grand scheme of things. .
Make no mistake though, the world of ICY is dangerous and just as you start growing comfortable and start to care about your newfound companions you will find yourself between a rock and a hard place. You are constantly juggling the groups’ survival needs with your quest to find your friends and at times you will find yourself going out of the way to ensure your group has enough to survive before being able to carry on.
ICY is an amazing experience to say the least, and at $13 (Rs 800) there is no way you can get more value for your money. But be warned, you will lose hours of your life to this game.
