RTC will run more buses

The success will be measured by tracking how many cars are off the roads

Hyderabad: The TSRTC will be operating 63 additional buses for this initiative on a pilot basis. After six to eight weeks a review of the pilot project’s viability will be taken up.

TSRTC’s Greater Hyderabad Zone regional manager P. Kondaiah said the visibility of buses will be high on the routes during the ‘Car Free Thursday’ initiative.

“We are hoping that once the campaign starts, within six to eight weeks, the TSRTC will find these bus services viable. This is going to be a consistent programme every Thursday and we expect people will adapt to it eventually. The success will be measured by tracking how many cars are off the roads and we are hoping that in six to eight weeks the numbers will be significant. As for the financial viability of buses, if occupancy of these additional buses touches the normal occupancy level on these routes, it will be sustainable. Otherwise we will pool resources and make it viable. Even the departments supporting us are ready to bear the cost,” said HYSEA president Ramesh Longanathan.
