Railway stations very vulnerable in Telangana
Hyderabad: The three major railway stations in Hyderabad and stations like Kazipet and Warangal are vulnerable to terror attacks as the railway police do not have enough personnel to thoroughly check passengers.
The TS railway police has only one bomb detection-disposal team, with which they have to manage all the major railway stations in the state. The few armed personnel at the stations are not capable of thwarting armed terrorists.
Nearly 2.5 lakh passengers pass everyday through Nampally, Secunderabad, and Kacheguda. The railway police, which is facing a severe staff crunch with more than 50 per cent posts vacant, cannot frisk all passengers.
Even if maximum force is deployed for every 10 passengers frisked hundreds pass by without being checked.
The security at MMTS stations are also inadequate. Terrorists can reach the main railway stations on MMTS trains by easily avoiding security checks at small stations.
However, SCR officials said that nearly 600 security men of the RPF have been deployed in all running trains in the twin cities.
Meanwhile, GRP officials say that since they face a severe staff crunch they cannot deploy men on MMTS trains. Sources said the numerous entry points in Secunderabad, Nampally, and Kacheguda railway stations make them porous.
Many fences meant to prevent people from entering the tracks have been destroyed and passengers use them to get to platforms. Anybody can enter the platforms without being seen by security forces.
