NORKA’s nurse recruitment exam a planning disaster

More than 700 candidates appeared for the test and only very few could not attend it

KOCHI: The first-ever examination conducted by NORKA Roots for overseas recruitment of nurses in Kochi on Monday turned to be a bitter experience for hundreds of candidates due to lack of planning and coordination.

NORKA took over the charge of nurses' recruitment after receiving complaints that private agencies were charging exorbitant sums.

Many candidates could not attend the test as the NORKA authorities failed to inform the applicants about the examination schedule in advance.

Many candidates registered for recruitment received details of the examination only on Sunday night. Some of them came to know about the test through print and visual media.

Candidates from far-off places came to the examination centre at Kaloor early morning. However, the registration, scheduled at 8 am, was delayed for more than two hours.

“We reached here by 6.30 in the morning and had to wait for more than four hours. Lack of planning was evident in all procedures. There was no official deputed for disseminating information,” alleged a candidate.

Meanwhile, a top Norka official told DC that the confusion regarding the examination was deliberately created by private recruitment agencies in a bid to sabotage the process.

More than 700 candidates appeared for the test and only very few could not attend it. The official said that only very few candidates qualified in the earlier test conducted by the Ministry of Health as they are not familiar with it.
