Hyderabad: The city police is on high alert after the Gurdaspur terror attacks in Punjab which killed at least 11 people. The roads near Cherlapally Jail were partially closed and a large force was deployed there as Indian Mujahideen terrorist Yasin Bhatkal is lodged there.
The police has also installed extra surveillance cameras in surrounding areas. “We have increased security in the Cherlapally area since Yasin Bhatkal and other terror suspects are lodged there. More forces have been deployed near the jail to prevent attacks,” said Cyberabad police commissioner C.V. Anand.
Security at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is also being stepped up in the wake of an intelligence alert. Checks at railway stations and major bus stations have been intensified.
Anti-sabotage measures have been taken at major markets. Cyberabad police has increased security in the IT corridor.
The special forces outside RGI Airport have been conducting patrolling and vehicle checks in Shamshabad. “Apart from the CISF, the local police was also present around the airport on Thursday,” said a senior police official.
“Patrolling has been increased in the IT corridor and special vehicle checking has been carried out. The managements of MNCs have been asked to be extra careful. They were asked to close all gates except the most necessary ones,” said the Cyberabad police commissioner said.
The police has stepped up security at malls and markets. Special anti- sabotage checks were conducted by the Hyderabad police at many areas.
Bomb detection squads were pressed into action at major establishments. The top cops have asked citizens not to panic but to be alert.
Cops have asked the people to alert the police on emergency numbers if they find any suspicious activities or objects.
