Ex-Union minister P K Thungon gets jail
He was accused of misappropriation of Rs 2 crore released by the Centre
NEW DELHI: “Corruption at any level cannot be taken lightly as corruption by its very nature is spreading like cancer and eating away the public trust,” a Delhi court noted this while awarding four-and-a-half years rigorous imprisonment to former chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh P.K. Thungon and imposing a fine of Rs 10,000 on him in connection with a graft case.
The CBI had in 1998 lodged a case against Thungon and three others accusing them of misappropriation of Rs 2 crore released by the Centre for public welfare of Nagaland.
Besides Thungon, the court awarded different jail terms to three more accused. It awarded three-and-a-half years imprisonment to Tali A.O. and C. Sangit.
The court awarded fourth accused Mahesh Maheshwari two-and-a-half-year jail term and later on released him on bail. The court directed him to furnish a bail bond of Rs 50,000 and a surety of like amount.
