Ensure water for every house: CM K Chandrasekhar Rao

Mr Rao held a review meeting at his camp office on drinking water supply in the city with ministers and officials

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday asked officials to ensure more water from Krishna and Godavari rivers to meet shortage of drinking water in the city.

He asked officials to build special reservoirs to store water and to ensure water connections to each and every household in the city. Mr Rao held a review meeting at his camp office on drinking water supply in the city with ministers and officials.

“Hyderabad and its surrounding areas have a population of nearly 1.42 crore. It requires 42.58 TMCs of water to meet the drinking water needs of this population. We have to devise the plans accordingly and ens-ure that the city never faces a water shortage problem,” Mr Rao said.

Stating that the water reserves in lakes on the city outskirts, besides Manjeera and the soon to be available water from Krishna and Godavari rivers put together would comprise 32 TMCs, he asked officials to devise plans to fill the remaining 10 TMCs deficit.

“Our plans should meet not only domestic purpose, but also for industries. Officials should survey how many more tap connections are required after HMDA limits are also included,” the Chief Minister directed.
