Dug roads not repaired in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The GHMC has permitted various departments and private firms to dig up roads for JNNURM projects, underground cabling etc. and almost 70 per cent of the roads have been dug. But not a single stretch has been repaired following that.
The GHMC does not inspect if the contractor has re-carpeted the road after work, as per agreement. At Malkajgiri, a Rs 300-crore World Bank project is on and the contractor states that the roads will only be laid in 2016 after the entire project is finished.
Mr Murali Krishna, a resident of Vimaladevi Nagar- Malkajgiri said, “The road between Bajrang Stores to Manjuranga Towers and from there, connecting to the Ramachandra Theatre side of Vimaladevi Nagar, calls for immediate attention…also, the road connecting the Manjuranga Towers to the under-path of the railway line connecting East Anand Bagh. The roads are dug and there is a lot of debris on the sides of the roads, and the potholes endanger the motorists. Half of the Bajrang Stores to Manjuranga Towers stretch is an open drain. People here are struggling to survive.”
Mr Kshir Sagar, a resident of Habsiguda, said, “There was a cable laid by a private company along the cement road in Habsiguda Road No. 4,3 2 and 1 in Kakatiya Nagar. The stretch was uncovered for a long time. Till now, there is no smooth surface. It’s dangerous for vehicles, especially after rains.”
A 50-metre stretch at Nallakunta has been dug up by AP Transco but the road has not been re-carpeted. Also, Sindhi Colony of Sanathnagar constituency and Defence Colony of Uppal were dug up by HMWS&SB. Even the bylanes of Rajendranagar circle was dug for JNNURM project, which is still in its first phase. Apart from poor engineering, lack of coordination among GHMC departments is to blame for the poor roads.
