It's objective will be to search for a missing aircraft

On Monday, the Civil Aviation Ministry told Parliament, “The objective of the National Aeronautical Search and Rescue Services is to search for a missing aircraft, its crew and passengers and to provide aid and organise the rescue of survivors of aircraft accidents. With this objective, the draft National Aeronautical Search and Rescue Coordination Committee, making it responsible for Aeronautical Search and Rescue Services in the Indian Search and Rescue Region over land area for handling aeronautical exigencies.”
“No timeline has been fixed for this purpose as it involves wide range of consultations with various participating agencies. Presently, in case of exigencies, the Rescue Coordination Centres of Airports Authority of India coordinates with concerned agencies,” the ministry added. The move assumes significance, given last year’s occurrence when a Malaysia Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing went missing.
