Yadlapadu women force two liquor shops to down shutters
The women recalled that the owners had earlier agreed to shift the shops and asked for time till July 20
Guntur: Women of Yadlapadu in Guntur district locked two liquor shops operating from the village.
The women of the village were for long seeking shifting of the liquor shops from the village. However, no action was taken by the authorities concerned.
Meanwhile, women from the villages turned up in large numbers at the shops situated right opposite the main road on Sunday. G. Lakshmi and others from the village alleged that they were facing difficulties while walking on the main road due to nuisance created by people in a drunken state.
The women lamented that they ran from pillar to post seeking shifting of Mrugasira wines and Andhra wines but nothing resulted.
The women recalled that the owners had earlier agreed to shift the shops and asked for time till July 20. However, even after giving the shop owners extra time for shifting, they did not seem keen on doing the same. Therefore, the women on Sunday decided to put locks on the shops.
The women said they would not allow reopening of the liquor shops at any cost and warned of intensifying agitations if the shops did not shift from the village.
