Elaborate security arrangements are being made at the holy Godavari Pushkaralu to avoid any untoward incidents such as stampedes, property offences, road accidents, traffic jams, and foraying into deep water.
Guntur: With a 10-day holiday decl-ared at Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU), students returned to their homes and subsequently the campus wore a deserted look. The two gates were closed and private security staff were deployed at the main gate to restrain entry of non-boarders.
The varsity officials re-moved boards of all caste-based students unions on the ANU campus and further did not allow anyone without proper identity/permission into the campus.
Meanwhile, students posted on Facebook page created for the deceased Rishiteswari demanding justice on Sunday.
ANU vice-chancellor Prof. K.R.S. Sambasiva Rao conducted a meeting with ANU officials to initiate steps for betterment of campus life.
According to him, identity cards will be issued to all employees, including contract and temporary staffs, biometric attendance system would be introduced for students, teaching and non-teaching staffs, CCTV cameras would be installed all over the campus and private security would be appointed to monitor safety and security in the campus.
Students took part in an online campaign from 10 am on Sunday through Facebook page “We Want Justice for Rishiteswari, Raise your Voice”. As many as 11,100 people liked the page demanding justice.
Further students would send emails to the Governor for restarting of classes from Monday and cancellation of holidays in ANU, for an unbiased inquiry into the suicide and stern action against the accused senior students and ANU officials.
YSR Congress students’ wing state secretary Sk. Rabbani alleged that ANU officials are trying to suppress the Rishiteswari ragging case. He demanded dismissal of principal of ANU College of Architecture, G. Babu Rao, who he felt was being shielded because of caste-based politics.
