Former CBI chief K Vijayarama Rao refuses to talk on Yakub Memon verdict

Vijayarama added that the Governor or President would decide on clemency pleas
Hyderabad: Refusing to comment on the death sentence of Yakub Memon, in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, former CBI director K. Vijayarama Rao, who headed the investigation, said that the courts, the Maharashtra Governor and the President were competent enough to decide on the pleas regarding the case before them.
Speaking to this newspaper on Sunday, the former CBI chief said, “If any lapses were pointed out by courts regarding our investigation there would have been a response, but to my knowledge, nothing of that sort was said. The CBI did its job. The accused individuals were convicted and it was upheld by higher courts. So what is there to comment,” he asked.
He added that the Governor or President would decide on clemency pleas. He refused to be drawn into the controversy that Yakub Memon had surrendered, but was not picked up by police and that he cooperated with the CBI.
