DMDK to chart out poll path on August 2
Chennai: DMDK has convened its high level executive committee meeting on August 2 to decide on its future course of action. DMDK founder Vijayakanth would address the meeting to be held at the party headquarters in Koyambedu on Sunday, a party release said.
A senior party leader said that ‘Captain’ has convened party’s executive council to take stock of the political situation and also hear the views of the party office bearers, including district secretaries, on preparing for next year’s state elections. “Already the district secretaries have been instructed to take up issues concerning the local people and failure of the AIADMK government,” the leader said.
The executive committee would also deliberate on the preparation for party president Vijayakanth’s birthday on August 25, which is observed as ‘Poverty Eradication Day’, by giving away welfare assistance to the needy, the leader said. This year the party plans to hold rallies across the state to distribute welfare assistance to the poor starting from Gummidipoondi in Tiruvallur district on August 20.
Vijayakanth and his wife Premalatha would address the rallies, which would be held between August and November. Party sources said that these rallies would mark the party’s preparation for the next year Assembly polls and would also boost the sagging morale of the party cadres.
The meeting has been convened at a time when opposition parties DMK and PMK are holding rallies across the state. DMK treasurer M. K. Stalin has been holding rallies titled Needhi Ketkum Perani while PMK’s chief ministerial candidate Dr Anbumani Ramadoss addressing meetings across all the assembly constituencies.
