Corporates fail to fulfill Swachh vow
Hyderabad: Corporate companies and public sector undertakings, which booked government schools to build toilets as part of the Swachh Vidyalaya Swachh Bharat campaign, are now failing to complete their quota.
The government has been writing to the private firms and PSUs to at least release payments so that it can complete the construction. Sources said that the Union HRD ministry had directed states to complete the toilets using funds from the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan if they failed to get money from the companies who had booked those toilets.
States have been set the cut-off of date of July 31 for completion of toilets and with less than a week left, construction of the remaining toilets has been put on the fast track.
Tata Consultancy Services, Airports Authority of India, Life Insurance Corporation, GAIL, PFCL etc. are among those who have failed to complete their quota of toilets in TS and Andhra Pradesh.
“They are citing reasons such as viability. They are either transferring them to the SSA or keeping silent. We are writing to them to at least release payments for the construction,” sources in the TS SSA said.
