CM Oommen Chandy launches 102 ambulance service
KOCHI: The lives of many persons, especially accident victims can be saved through joint efforts and the recent air ambulance heart transplantation mission helped to boost confidence, observed chief minister Oomen Chandy.
He was launching the 102- Raksha ambulance service, a joint initiative of the district administration, National Rural Health Mission and an NGO Active Network Group of Emergency Life Savers (ANGELS) here on Sunday.
The centralised ambulance service is already operational with an initial fleet of 50 ambulances.
Anyone can get an ambulance service at the doorstep by dialing toll-free number 102.
The vehicles are fitted with GPS equipment and the centralised call centre will identify the location and redirect it to those who require emergency medical care.
While addressing the gathering, actor Jayasoorya, brand ambassador of the service, said that he was happy to be part of a noble initiative.
“With the launching of a dedicated number, no one has to search desperately for medical help in an emergency. The new project aims at reducing the response time of ambulances in the district,” he said.
Within three to four months, all the ambulances in Ernakulam, more than 500, will be brought into the network. Minister K. Babu released the logo of Raksha scheme.
