Chennai: Job scam mastermind nabbed

While police arrested Syed and Arvindraj, the mastermind, Abdul Suban was on the run

Chennai: A year after his associates were held in connection with a job racket, the Central Crime Branch arrested the mastermind of the scam on Sunday.

A. Abdul Suban (47) of Mylapore who was hiding was nabbed near the Albert theater in Egmore. His associates, Syed Salaludeen and Arvindraj were arrested last year following a petition from graduates to the City Police commissioner’s office.

Investigations revealed that the trio floated a company— SSS Placements at JP Tower in Nungambakkam — promising jobs in IT majors.

“They collected amounts ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh from about 14 candidates. However, they failed to keep up the promise and cheated the candidates of about Rs 25 lakh rupees,” a CCB official said.

When the aspirants approached them, they kept dodging them, after which police action was sought. While police arrested Syed and Arvindraj, the mastermind, Abdul Suban was on the run.

Investigations revealed that between 2010 and 2013, the trio had also conducted bogus campus interviews in engineering colleges in Poonamallee and Nerkundram areas, claiming to be representatives of an IT firm. They earned about Rs 50 lakh by cheating around 30 aspirants then.

In all the cases, they issued fake appointment orders to such aspirants. Suban was remanded in judicial custody. “He was also involved in cheating cases in Madipakkam police station and in Salem district,” a police officer said.
