Cyberabad police book 7,000 cases on ORR for wrong side drive

Many accidents have occurred on ORR due to wrong side driving

Hyderabad: The Outer Ring Road, which has only limited entry points, witnessed the largest number of wrong side driving cases. Around 450 vehicles were caught in the last two weeks for this. Police says that 7,000 cases have been booked this year.

Another serious problem is motorists using exit points for entry and vice versa. It leads to frequent mishaps at entry-exit points. Wrong parking, and lane jumping are the other offenses on ORR.

Cyberabad traffic police says they have booked 7,762 cases this year. An ORR patrolling scheme was started last year. Four vehicles were pressed into service from Peddam-berpet to Shamirpet through Shamshabad. The surveillance cameras also record violations.

Traffic police says that since entry-exit points and U turns are limited on this high speed corridor many motorists take wrong routes to exit points. “Many drivers take the wrong side. However, they do not realise that it is dangerous,” said a senior cop. Many accidents have occurred on ORR due to wrong side driving.

Due to wrong parking, many vehicles have crashed into stationary vehicles. “As per rules if there is a mechanical failure the driver has to park the vehicle on the extreme left lane, switch on parking lights, put up reflective signs five meters away from the vehicle on the rear as well as front side. If the driver does not do this he or she will be booked,” said a senior Cyberabad police official.
